The Artist: Stanley Gordon
Stanley Gordon is one of the 20th century’s greatest portrait artists. Stanley Gordon has been painting portraits for over half a century. In that time he captured the likeness of such famous people as Pope John Paul II, George Bush, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Mother Teresa, Robert Schuller, Billy Graham, Bishop Fulton J. Sheen and countless other influential people, prominent world leaders and religious leaders. These portraits are currently in Presidential Libraries, gallery and private collections.
Stanley has done much more than paint beautiful, life-like portraits of the rich and famous. He recalls that one of his most meaningful art projects was as a sketch artist for the USO during WWII. In this assignment, he visited North Atlantic bases and did individual charcoal sketches of more than a thousand GI’s. These portraits were sent home to grateful family members, many whom wrote to thank Stanley after he returned to the U.S.
But of all these great works, this portrait of Jesus is Stanley Gordon’s legacy to the world. “The Masterpiece”.
